SS03 Distressed Tartan Set w/ Kilted Trouser & Shirt

Size M Fits S-M 30

Spring/Summer 2003 is one of the most widely celebrated Undercover collections, referencing motifs from traditional dress across the world, original punk stylings as envisioned by Vivienne Westwood and as en extension of this decay and repair. Whilst the Paris runway show only displayed womenswear, these themes were as clearly expressed in the menswear.

This shirt and trouser feature a tartan pattern synonymous with Scottish traditional wear, (although some believe the pattern was conceived in Ireland). In line with the pattern's Scottish heritage is the kilt applied along the rise of the trouser which can be unzipped at the front and opened but not removed, the kilt was also re-appropriated by Vivienne Westwood as part of the punk repertoire. The trouser is also cut very similar to the tartan trousers found in punk garb. There is extensive distressing along the edges of the kilt, further evoking punk motifs.

The shirt features inside out seams as well as a tear across the collar, the collar tips are stitched down as I expect the collar would be a mess to deal with otherwise. There is also a false hem above the bottom which is a lovely addition when worn as an ensemble, harmonizing with the seam of the kilt on the trouser.

Trouser sold, shirt available for $200.
