Shin Murayama is well-known for his masks, handmade wearable sculptures that repurpose everyday objects, morphing, manipulating, and collaging them in a way that blends the familiar and surreal. The headpieces appear alien in their forms yet upon further inspection are grounded in textiles, forms, and logos that seem almost too familiar given the shape they've become--Yankees logos, the sandy blues of faded vintage denim, the laces and tongues of vintage leather sneakers, the list goes on. This familiarity is an integral part of Shin Murayama's artistry...it's what gives all of his pieces their edge and anchors the far fetched in a sort of gritty urban reality.

This sensibility translates to Shin's clothing projects as well. Though not as intensely detailed and painstakingly articulated as the masks, they do reflect Shin's one-step-away-from-reality universe. Case in point is this desert parka, handmade as part of a capsule collection released in November of 2018. Working with Stussy, Shin spliced together true vintage and archive stussy products to create pieces in his signature DIY aesthetic. An earlier TWONESS coat which combined the upper half of a surplus desert camo coat and the lower half of a desert night camo parka serves as a predecessor to this iteration, which utilizes a reassembled archive Stussy woven baja hoodie to form the bottom half (with two patch drop pockets placed below the desert camo pocket flaps and the kangaroo hoodie pocket shifted to the back). Shin Murayama's signature white stitching can be seen at the inside facing of the bottom half, a hidden detail that reminds the wearer of the handmade quality of the garment.

9/10 Condition, with no rips, stains, or tears. Given the vintage nature of the base garments any imperfections present are considered part of the product.
