The commercially available releases from the 2000s saw many more luxurious re-iterations of military inspired garments explored in 1998 and 1999 on the mainline instead of the HL Jeans line. The outerwear generally featured more refined, classical lining fabrics alongside more substantial and expensive outers in comparison to the more everyday nylons and twills used on the Jeans line.
This jacket is made of a rugged kevlar, one of the many technical fabrics Helmut Lang is known for introducing to the world of 'high fashion', the fabric is heavy, windproof and structured. The latter is particularly noteworthy when considering the dramatic shape and fit the jacket achieves when worn, which due to its shorter than normal length flares out around the back and front. Details are standard Lang briliiance throughout; the rectangular pocket on the chest and the pleats around each elbow are what make these military re-appropriations so Lang and so special - they are great examples of what is meant when the word 'elevation' is used when speaking about Lang's re-appropriations. There is also a double zip placket, the outer zip is metallic and the interior is black plastic.
