Standout long coat from Takahiro Miyashita's current label 'the soloist.' As is nearly always the case with pieces from these collections, this coat is almost obsessive in terms of the detailing and consideration. Every moment in this piece serves as an element that Takahiro can tweak with his sensibilities. A short breakdown is as follows:
-This piece explores the idea of lining as its own separate entity, detaching it at the hem and at the end of the sleeves. One can access the interstitial space in between the lining and the outer face fabric by reaching their hand up the bottom.
-In keeping with this theme of a coupling/doubling of clothing elements that would once be considered only in their unification, Takahiro expertly cuts a 'shadow' of a lapel into this piece. When the collar is flipped up (which also gives this piece an alternative character), the upper mantle of the coat displays a peak lapel created only through the patternwork of the garment, an ingenious hidden detail that furthers the thematic investigation of the 'double' within the collection and the piece.
-Another theme present in the extension of the lining is bringing the 'inside' of the garment onto the outside. This idea can traced back to Takahiro's work in prior seasons (for example, the pajama shirts were fully reversible) and this idea is explored beyond the lining here with the addition of a front cross-body strap closure that acts as a thread physically linking the interior and exterior of the coat. There is also the full 360 strap wrist strap closure which slots through the face fabric. Finally, the waist cord entry is cleverly cut into the slash hand pockets at the side.
The piece is perfectly rounded out with soloist's standard detailing like raw seams, expert tailoring, and takahiro's brilliant selection of the most luxurious materials: wool, velvet, leather, etc. (find material tag) that create soloist's signature 'visual noisiness.' This coat is an incredibly complete materialization of concept by Takahiro and would serve as a beautiful standout coat in any fan's wardrobe.
