Vetements Fall 2018 found inspiration in the local flea market and the everyday clothes there. Under the artful and iconoclastic supervision of Demna, these ordinary flea market clothes evolved into a cacophonous symphony of clashing texture and pattern. Based on the way Demna's tribe dresses, Vetements showcased the many ways in which the inventive wearing of clothes can completely recontextualize and transform commonplace garments into something unrecognizable and fresh with an irreverent 'punk' energy.
Gone are the traditional notions of fit, of color coordination, of formality and polish. Instead, each look from Fall 2018 is more like a collage, compositions that dance around the codes of dress and garments we see everyday. Grounded in familiar archetypes like wrinkled suiting, nylon track jackets, military surplus, and DIY 'customized' stickered pants, the looks propose not only what we should wear, but how we could wear things--Blazers are donned inside out, oversized T-shirts are layered over outerwear, pants sliced down the front flare out to reveal another pair worn underneath, and tight, gloved, plug-suit base layers utilize the body's shape as opportunity for graphic intervention. There's an atmosphere of dirty realism (thanks to the flea market foundation) that's been molded, spliced, and layered into something artful--artful in its exploration of shape, the clashing of different garment categories, in the forceful layering and juxtaposition of colors and textures. What results is a perfectly messy and honest reflection of our contemporary urban landscape.
About the product: Tiger Camo cargo pants that have been sewn together then laser cut in the style of military camouflage netting. The cutouts unfurl, revealing any layers worn underneath (anime print leggings or long graphic socks on the runway) and invite all sorts of innovative and unconventional layering. The reinforced knees and cargo pockets remain opaque, and there is a constructed inner lining that extends from waistband until upper thigh. Cut with a straight, ever so slightly tapered leg. Features button fly, two waist pockets, two back flap pockets, and drawstrings at the hem.
Made in Italy 8/10 Condition. Some of the cutouts have ripped but all have been laboriously repaired with hand stitching. All connection points are intact now.
