A slightly more incognito version of the iconic AW03 Bondage panel bomber. This stripped back version forgoes the back panel and bondage straps for a more singular focus on elevating timeless menswear staples in luxurious materials and fabrications. The one here is cut in a brushed wool flannel with knit cotton ribbing at the neck, hem, and cuffs. It has an incredibly soft hand and drape that is elegant, protective, and cozy. Looking inside reveals the extensive changes Helmut Lang made to subtlely alter the shape of this piece--this bomber is cut with a traditional jacket facing construction instead of the matching outer and lining that reversible Ma-1's usually employ. This combined with the softer and lighter insulation lets the bomber hang off the shoulders with a more tailored fit as opposed to the puffy, cropped blouson shape of a traditional ma-1. The neckline is dropped for an easier, more relaxed look, and the back is shaped with an additional vertical dart running up the center back from the hem, a detail invisible to the usual onlooker but one that creates the subtlest visual and geometric shift.
Finished with chunky Lampo center zip, two flap-closed waist pockets, 2 interior chest pockets (1 side entry welt pocket + 1 patch pocket), and zip-closed arm pocket.
Made in Italy 8/10 Condition. Some snags in the ribbing, but no other rips or tears. See pictures for the full story.
